5 Ways to Keep Employees Engaged and Motivated

With many companies still working partially or entirely from home, it can be hard to keep everyone engaged.  Employee engagement is a critical driver of business success and can have a direct impact on your bottom line. Engaged employees are often happier, more productive and will contribute to your company’s vision and long-term success. Here are some of our best tips for keeping your employees happy this summer:

1. Create a charity campaign and encourage volunteering

The summer is a great time to encourage employees to volunteer at a charity they are passionate about. Alternatively, you could run a charity campaign and set a certain amount of money aside to donate to organizations your team cares about. Offering a gift matching program to match donations from your employees is another way to show your appreciation for your community.

2. Organize social activities and events

Having fun together as a team is a great way to build a strong bond and keep employees engaged. As COVID-19 restrictions ease, consider getting your team together for a BBQ, sporting event, lunch, happy hour or karaoke.

Not ready to get together as a group? Create a photo contest and encourage employees to share their best photos of what they are doing during the summer to stay active and get outdoors. Top off the friendly competition with a prize or donation to the winner’s charity of their choice.

3. Provide additional employee resources

The summer is a great time to schedule workshops and sessions for your team on topics such as management skills, technical skills, resilience, mental health and diversity and inclusion. Spending time on professional development and exposing your team to more tools and resources will lead to a more successful, well-rounded group in the long term.

4. Allow for a flexible schedule

After 16 months of working remotely, everyone has learned the hours and environment that allow them to perform at their best. Being flexible with your work schedule allows employees to be successful in their roles and continue to stay motivated throughout the summer. Consider offering flex time or staggered work hours in order to allow your team to get the most out of their summer activities and family time.

5. Develop clear lines of transparency and communication

Promote better organization transparency by creating an open-door policy, running regular engagement surveys and encouraging open communication forums. If you don’t have one already, set up a workforce communication platform like Microsoft Teams, Slack, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger to keep everyone on the same page and encourage regular communication.

Consider implementing a few of these tips into your business to increase the level of engagement in your team and the organization as a whole.
